An outer suburb of Brisbane, 16 km north of the city. Named after a previous mayor of Sandgate, the racecourse, railway station and wetlands also carry his name. The Gateway Arterial Road runs through the suburb on the western side, as well as the Cabbage Tree Creek catchment. The area also has a rich indigenous history and was occupied by Aboriginal tribes.
